General Comments: "Alessandro from NAL was my main and virtually sole contact for this swim. I'm happy with the support and information I received leading up to the crossing, and how he went the extra mile to look after me and my companion even the day after the swim was completed. The area it's gorgeous and it was an immense pleasure to swim there. The fact that there was no waiting list to speak of was also a plus.
My main reservation about this swim is related to the cost and how they handle refunds. On the one hand, I think it was overpriced for what I got in terms of the boat they used. On the other hand, the contract I signed stated that "the Organizer (NAL) does not offer any money-back guarantees. In case of cancellation of the crossing by the participants within 30 days before the first effective date of the planning of the crossing, the Organizer grants a 1500,00 euro voucher for the next crossing to be rescheduled with the same specifications and services within a year". However, it also stated that "Nothing will be due of the amount paid in case of failure of the crossing or the impossibility of the same due to unstable weather conditions or other problems not attributable to the organizer".
I'm glad I had good weather conditions for most of my time window (5 days), but that was only a matter of luck. There were many storms in the days prior and I realized I would loose everything I paid for if I was not allowed to swim. For that reason, unless NAL changes their policy, I would advice other swimmers to strongly consider if they want to support organizations with this kind of refund policy. In the future, I will not."
