New York Bay (solo) swims

New York Bay is a tidal estuary connecting the Harlem River/East River confluence at lower Manhattan to the Atlantic Ocean. It is the location of some of the earliest long-distance open water swimming activity in the world, with Capt. Matthew Webb completing a swim from Sandy Hook to Manhattan Beach in 1879, and a 28 km professional race held between Sandy Hook and the Battery in 1914.

This page includes independently organized solo swims in New York Bay, as well as solo and record attempts organized by NYC Swim as part of its annual Ederle Swim, and by New York Open Water as part of the Ederle-Burke Swim.
