The FINA World Cup Long Distance Swimming Championships were the first attempt to create a true international open water swimming championship event under FINA, the IOC-recognized international governing body of aquatic sports. It was a precursor to the FINA Open Water World Championships, and was discontinued when FINA began holding the latter on an annual basis in 2000.
